Military Science
About Us
Located on Chicago’s vibrant north side, the Rambler Battalion is proudly hosted at Loyola University Chicago and includes Cadets from our partner schools: DePaul University, Northwestern University, Northeastern Illinois University, and North Park University. Together, these institutions form one of the most diverse and academically rich Army ROTC programs in the region.
Cadets benefit from access to world‑class university resources, professional development opportunities across the city, and the cultural breadth that only a major metropolitan area can provide. Our formation reflects this diversity, bringing together students from across the country, representing a wide range of backgrounds, academic interests, and leadership potential.
The Rambler Battalion cadre consists of highly experienced and professionally trained Army leaders supported by dedicated civilian staff who ensure the program runs smoothly and effectively. The program prepares future officers through a balanced program emphasizing leadership development, military skills, academic excellence, and physical readiness. The end result are well‑rounded leaders of character ready to serve in the Army.

Military History Course- Any Semester
All ROTC cadets across the country are required to take a college level history course that focuses on U.S. military history and the history of the profession of arms. Specific courses that meet the requirements established by U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command are determined by the Professor of Military Science. For a list of courses that fulfill the military history requirement at your university, please contact your Military Science Instructor.
In addition to these approved courses, the Military Science Department offers a three credit hour, independent study course that is taken online through the ROTC Blackboard learning system. This course can be found in Loyola's course catalog under:
