The Accelerated BSN track of the BSN program is designed for college graduates who want to transition to a career as a professional registered nurse. Pre-requisite arts and sciences courses are completed prior to admission. The 16-month full-time program includes the major courses of the BSN program.
The Accelerated BSN track of the BSN program is offered in two learning options.
Onsite Option
Courses meet in person on the Health Sciences Campus in Maywood, Illinois. Laboratory and simulation experiences are completed at the Health Sciences Campus and clinical learning experiences are completed throughout the Chicagoland area.
Hybrid Learning Option
The hybrid learning option includes online coursework, laboratory, simulation, and class meeting times at the Health Sciences Campus in Maywood, Illinois and clinical learning experiences at Chicago area healthcare facilities.

Additional Undergraduate Graduation Requirements
All Undergraduate students are required to complete the University Core, at least one Engaged Learning course, and UNIV 101. SCPS students are not required to take UNIV 101. Nursing students in the Accelerated BSN program are not required to take core or UNIV 101. You can find more information in the University Requirements area.
Learning Outcomes
The ABSN track has the same learning outcomes as the BSN Program. The goal of the BSN program is to prepare baccalaureate generalist nurses. At the completion of the program, graduates are expected to:
- Synthesize knowledge from liberal arts, sciences, and nursing science as a basis for professional nursing practice.
- Integrate levels of prevention, quality, safety concepts and principles and leadership into professional nursing practice.
- Provide culturally competent, effective and patient-centered professional nursing care to individuals, families and communities across the lifespan.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with the patient and interprofessional team to deliver evidence-based, safe, patient-centered care to individuals, families and communities.
- Integrate values, ethics and legal knowledge into nursing practice.
- Integrate scientific evidence and patient, family and community preferences into the planning, implementation and evaluation of professional nursing care.
- Apply skills of information technology and information management effectively in professional nursing practice.
- Analyze ways governmental, institutional and professional policies directly and indirectly influence the healthcare system and population health.
