About Us
The Pre-Health Professions team offers assistance to Loyola's undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students interested in pursuing health professional careers. For those students unsure of exactly what field to choose or who want general information to begin their search, Pre-Health Professions is the place to start.
Our office provides a variety of services for students to guide them through the seemingly confusing road of health professional careers and applications. The services provided include:
- Personal advising on health careers focusing on the individual interests of the student
- A variety of workshops to serve the needs of our students
- Information on various local volunteer opportunities
- A streamlined application process that gives students the opportunity to work more closely with the Pre-Health Professions office
- Frequent updates from the Pre-Health Professions office on health career events and activities
- Referrals to other university resources

Commonly Required Courses
These are typical requirements and recommendations for applying to medical schools. If you are interested in applying to programs in one of the other health profession areas (dental, pharmacy, PA, PT, OT, optometry, podiatry, etc.) please review the recommended courses for that specific area.
The health professional schools themselves provide the most accurate and up-to-date source of information. Students should begin researching specific requirements of health professional schools they are interested in early in their academic careers and continue this research through their academic careers as health professional schools typically update their required and recommended courses on an annual basis.
Students should also review Loyola department websites and LOCUS to determine relevant pre-requisites for courses listed below and what terms these courses are typically offered. Please view the

Occasionally required courses include (but are not limited to):
Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology, Calculus, Additional Behavioral Sciences
*The “New Track” for the Chemistry sequence denotes the new course structure beginning in Fall 2023 that will reorganize the presentation of topics but still reflect the AAMC standards of Chemistry courses. Students who have completed the “PreviousTrack” have still completed the necessary chemistry requirements for health professional schools.
**The 240/241 and 260/261 levels of courses in the New Track of Chemistry are interchangeable and can be taken in either order once the 160/161 and 180/181 sequences are complete.
