Area Goal: This Core Area of Inquiry will invite students to explore artistic traditions and expressions.
Area Objectives: The study of art is essential for a complete education of the whole person because it fosters a search for truth, respect for the person, and encourages students to develop critical habits of the mind and ethical standards of behavior. "Art" is understood to encompass any and all forms of artistic expression, including but not limited to, dance, music, theater, film, and visual and plastic arts. The courses in this Core Area will provide students with the opportunity to engage in the arts through formal study or creative processes, and to explore non-linear modes of thinking, problem-solving, and expression. Students will have the opportunity to acquire collaborative skills through group problem solving and engaged dialog where applicable.
