There is a shortage of reading teachers in classrooms across Illinois. Adding this minor to your education major will help address the problem. Equipped with the skills to support all students with literacy skills, you'll be making a life-changing impact.
Curriculum
This minor is open only to Education majors. Grades of "C-" or lower are not counted toward fulfillment of minor requirements.
Students with majors in Elementary Education, Middle Grades ELA and Social Studies, and English Secondary Education can complete this minor within their four-year program plan. All other education majors will likely require additional time.

Required Illinois Testing
Students must pass the Content Area Test for the Reading Teacher, offered through the Illinois Licensure Testing Service (ILTS).
