The English minor equips students with essential skills, concepts, and experiences for the modern world, in a compact and flexible format. In addition to literary analysis in both traditional and contemporary forms, the minor helps students explore historical and cultural developments, invites them into the worlds of textual studies and digital humanities, and creative writing in a diverse array of genres. All courses at all levels of the program encourage students to become clear and effective writers.
Curriculum
The English minor consists of six courses (18 hours), four of which (12 hours) should be 300-level. Up to two courses may be drawn from UCLR 100-E and advanced 200-level (ENGL 270 and above) courses.

Suggested Sequence of Courses
The English minor is deliberately flexible. Though most (4) of the minor should be done at the 300 level, students are welcome to pursue their interests across our courses, including courses on literary study, advanced writing, and creative writing workshops. There is no required or suggested sequence of courses: students are encouraged to reach out to their advisor in the Department of English or the Director of Undergraduate Programs in English for advice in crafting a path through the minor that is rewarding for them.
