Musical Theatre Minor
The Minor in Musical Theatre trains students to be skilled actors, musicians, and dancers. This interdisciplinary opportunity is offered only to students currently majoring in Theatre, Music, or Dance.
Curriculum
The Musical Theatre minor is structured differently dependent on a student's major. The three options are listed below.
Musical Theatre for Dance Major
A total of 22 credit hours are required for a minor in Musical Theatre as a Dance Major.

You must take either Music Theory I (MUSC 144) and Musicianship Lab I (MUSC 145) OR Music Theory II (MUSC 244) and Musicianship Lab II (MUSC 245).
It is important that you enter the music theory and musicianship course sequence according to your skill level. If you are unclear about your skill level, contact the director for assistance. MUSC 144 Music Theory I and MUSC 145 Musicianship Lab I as well as MUSC 244 Music Theory II and MUSC 245 Musicianship Lab II must be taken concurrently.

Musical Theatre Rep Course Rotation
MUSC 374 Musical Theatre Repertoire is offered in the Fall semester during even numbered years (ie. Fall 2024, Fall 2026, Fall 2028, etc. )

Learning Outcomes
Students completing the Minor in Musical Theatre will:
- Create convincing characters and perform clear, active objectives
- Expand repertoire by performing pieces from a wide range of genres and eras
- Acquire proper dance technique with opportunities to train in ballet, modern, and jazz
- Demonstrate proper vocal technique and a deep understanding of musicality, rhythm, and written music
